Single-Session Video and Electromyography Feedback in Overhead Athletes With Scapular Dyskinesis and Impingement Syndrome

In a single-session study in overhead athletes (N=41) with SIS and scapular dyskinesis, EMG biofeedback increased lower trapezius activity and decreased the UT/LT ratio more than video feedback. Video feedback produced greater correction of scapular upward rotation. Each strategy targets a different aspect of the dysfunction.

CONCLUSION

EMG feedback training appears to be an effective tool within a session for increasing muscle activation and correcting imbalance patterns in SIS, showing positive effects from real-time UT/LT ratio feedback. With repeated training, such feedback could potentially translate into longer-term improvement.
