Evaluating the Effectiveness of sEMG Biofeedback for Posture Training and Scoliosis Management

In 25 adolescents with mild scoliosis, 30 weekly sessions of sEMG biofeedback posture training were associated with more balanced paraspinal activity, most notably in the latissimus dorsi and thoracic erector spinae, while average Cobb angle changes stayed below the 5° progression threshold. Without a control group, causality remains unclear (training vs. natural growth).

CONCLUSION

Since subjects with less balanced latissimus dorsi and lumbar erector spinae activity showed greater curvature worsening than those with better balance, this points to sEMG biofeedback posture training as a promising addition to conservative management in adolescents with AIS, pending confirmation in larger controlled trials.
