Determining Acceptable Range of Surface Electromyogram Electrode Placement Variation for Deltoid Muscle Using Euclidean Distance Function
Electrode repositioning between sessions (repeated attach/reattach) introduces location uncertainty at the muscle belly, causing sEMG amplitude to vary even under comparable contraction conditions. When electrodes were shifted 1 cm from baseline, reference similarity (Euclidean distance) remained at 76.4–93.9; 77.7–95.4; 76.0–92.3% per subject (≥90% in the best case).
CONCLUSION
A 1 cm placement variability seems like a usable tolerance range for repeated sEMG sessions, relevant for rehabilitation progress tracking (e.g., post-stroke rehab) without placement-induced signal distortion.
